In America, the early performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely place her into the category of child prodigies. For a child with Irish heritage surrounded by gifted parents and family, they had innate talents. Maureen was born in Ranelagh - a suburb of Dublin in Ireland on the 17th of August 1920. Marguerita L. FitzSimons made a name for herself with her contralto. His father, Charles FitzSimons, managed a business in Dublin and was also the owner of the renowned Irish soccer team "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen FitzSimons was the second FitzSimons child. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara made up this family. Maureen loved playing rough sporting games in her youth and excelled in sports. Her passion for sports was matched by an equally natural aptitude for performing. She was awarded nearly every Feis Award for Drama and Theatre Performance the country could offer. As she reached the age of 14 she was accepted by the Abbey Theater accepted her and permitted her to pursue her dreams of classical theater as well as singing opera.
